This experience showed children that life is an eternal learning experience. That in the city and on the farm, it is possible to apply the knowledge learned in the classroom.

It was thinking in these values that Delia Katz, a teacher at the Tropical Elementary School in Florida in the U.S. created the project “Farm Fun” in her inclusion group. The idea was to bring a little of farm life into the classroom, motivating students to learn important math concepts like weights and measures.

The E-Blocks Math Panel enriched this farm experience. Students had to compare the weight of animals and objects on the farm using a virtual scale and they also weighed objects using a real scale. To add a special touch and to expand on their knowledge, the children prepared a recipe of homemade butter to compare the weight of their tubs of butter.

While they were making the butter, for example, the students listened to the music from the Unit they were working on. To the rhythm of the music, they shook their tubs and had a lot of fun.

The kids learned pre-school math skills with the help of the E-Blocks Math. For Delia, the experience was successful because the kids found the activities to be colorful, interactive and motivating. Furthermore, they had the opportunity to work together in a very positive social exchange.

At the end, all of the students learned the concepts of light and heavy. And they got a little taste of farm life, without leaving the school.
